BERLINALE SPECIAL since 2009
International Actors Workshop during Berlinale Film Festival
ENERGIZING THE ACTOR - BERLINALE SPECIAL has been an established feature of the Berlinale since 2009. This year Greta Amend will once again offer this career-enhancing workshop in close proximity to the venue of the International Film Festival Berlin at the Potsdamer Platz.
Greta Amend has not only been working as an actress for more than 30 years, she has also been a director, teacher and casting director for the past twelve years.Throughout her career she has compiled a set of exercises designed to prepare the modern actor for the work on stage and on-camera. These exercises have become the cornerstone of her method and are reflected in her practice-oriented work. This series of exercises focuses on refining already existing acting techniques and optimizing the actors’ artistic abilities beyond classical techniques and terms.
You can look forward to a workshop focusing strongly on pitching, interview training, networking, self-management and image-development. In one-on-one “on camera” interviews Greta Amend will pursue the issues of individual professional development, perspectives, goals, and motivation of the participants. Materials thus recorded will be evaluated jointly.
Whilst the Berlinale primarily represents a fair for filmmakers, it also offers a billboard of opportunities posing particular challenges for actors:
- How do I pitch myself authentically and free of clichés in personal exchanges with decision-makers?
- How do I approach brief exchanges and succeed in leaving an impression stimulating further curiosity about my person?
- How do I succeed in communicating with directors, casting directors and filmmakers at their level?
- How do demonstrate “attitude” during conversation, and communicate my skills and achievements convincingly?
Participants will be given the opportunity to exchange views with their fellow-participants, prepare themselves professionally for the challenges and opportunities presented by the Berlinale, and, if so preferred, to attend the Berlinale jointly. In addition to extensive camera work, the course is rounded off by a CV- and headshot analysis.
